Partnership History:
In 2014, a unique partnership was formed between UTA’s Department of Theatre Arts & Dance and Tarrant County College’s Sign Language Interpreting program. The goals of the partnership are:

  • to create an inclusive experience for and with Deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons,
  • to enhance TCC students’ skills in artistic interpreting, and
  • to work toward eliminating barriers to participation in and enjoyment of the arts
  • to exemplify commitment to diversity and inclusion.

TCC students attend rehearsals for the show they’ve been assigned and work on the interpretation with assistance from the community and their instructors. Then, at a designated performance, TCC evaluators attend the show and assess the students’ work. Results have been positive for all involved, and we look forward continuing the opportunity.
