Professor Andrew Christopher Gaupp is Associate Department Chair, Artistic Director, and a resident director and Equity actor in the Maverick Theatre Company in the UTA Department of Theatre Arts since 1991. Previously, Gaupp taught at Trinity University’s graduate program at Dallas Theater Center, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and the University of Miami.
Professor Gaupp was a resident company member of the Tony Award-winning Dallas Theater Center Resident Artistic Company and has directed and acted for numerous theatre companies in the U.S. He has also directed and acted in New York City’s Broadway District, Chicago, Philadelphia, Scottsdale, New Orleans, Atlanta, San Antonio, Washington (D.C.), and in Montreal and Toronto Canada for the Association for Theatre in Higher Education’s (ATHE) New Play Development Workshop.
Gaupp served as managing director of Arkansas Repertory Theatre, managing director of The Ring Theatre in Coral Gables, interim managing director of Stage West, other positions in professional theaters. In addition, he assisted in presenting numerous Broadway touring productions at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas and off-Broadway, national touring productions.
An arts administration consultant in seven states, Gaupp is the recipient of numerous awards for his teaching, publication, directing, and service to the arts profession. He was inducted into the College of Fellows of the Southwest Theatre Association. Professor Gaupp holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Texas Tech University and a M.F.A. in Drama from Trinity University.
