Available for viewing from November 6 – 8, 2020

It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice… or take a stand… or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make. Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge, 57 stories above Fifth Avenue, to meet a startling array of characters that range from  a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to   a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams… and a soulless marriage. With a powerhouse, driving, and exquisitely crafted score, it  runs the gamut of today’s popular music.

SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
STREAMING IS PRESENTED BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT WITH MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATION (MTI) NEW YORK, NY.

Directed by Dr. Julienne Greer

Available for viewing from November 20 – 22, 2020
Tickets – $5 + fees

The setting is an all-night coffee shop on New York’s upper Broadway, where the riff-raff, the bums, the petty thieves, the lost, the desperate of the big city come together. The movement of the kaleidoscopic in effect, a surging mosaic of overlapping and interrelating speeches and action as separate goals and characters are blended together around a common center. At the core of the play are Joe and Darlene, two young people who would seem to have the strength and the need to transcend the turmoil and ugliness of the life in which they found themselves—but are, instead, crushed by it. But their loss is quickly absorbed in the maelstrom, as the others go on desperately seeking the joy and release and purpose in life which will, most certainly, continue to escape them.

SPRING AWAKENING

Book & Lyrics by Steven Sater
Music by Duncan Sheik
Based on the play by Frank Wedekind
Directed by J. Austin Eyer

Video On Demand Streaming
Available for viewing from March 5 – 7, 2021
Tickets – $8 + fees

Based off the 1891 German play, this rock musical critiques the hypocrisy of institutional doctrine (especially in relation to sex education, religious concepts of sin, and a culture of shame) as a means to control young adults and promote abstinence. Particularly in a time of civil unrest, Spring Awakening calls into question what is promoted to children as “normal” and what is “unnatural.” Though dealing with difficult themes like suicide and sexual abuse, the message of the musical is to rage against the status quo in order to protect individual expression and thought. The younger generations must hold their elders accountable and push back in order to create a world with more compassion and understanding of the individual.
