Associate Professor Dennis M. Maher received his Bachelor’s degree Cum Laude from St. Louis University, his Master’s from the University of Memphis, and his Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His major fields were Speech, Theatre and Theatre History, with minors in History, Film History, English, and Education. He has performed professionally for over fifty years, and is an award-winning playwright whose plays have been performed throughout the Southwest and Southeast. He has performed in many venues in the Metroplex and at UTA, and has directed over 60 plays and musicals in the area. He helmed the first dramaturgical program in Theatre in North Texas, and is a member of Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas. A popular voice talent, Dr. Maher has voiced numerous characters for Funimation, Inc. and has a long list of credits as a narrator and spokesperson. He is currently the senior Professor in the Department, having taught here since 1982. His opinions on theatre, film, baseball and popular culture have been quoted by media from Semana Terra (Colombia) to the Dallas Morning News to ABC.com. He is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) and is an ordained minister entitled to perform weddings, funerals, baptisms, and hand fasting. He is a fine chef and a terrific baker.
