Detra Payne has been acting professionally for 30 years. She earned a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Washington in Seattle, and an MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio Drama School a division of The New School. As a professional actor her work has been seen Off Off Broadway, in regional theatre around the country, and in numerous commercials, films, television, and industrials. Detra is a member of SAG-AFTRA, working towards becoming a member of AEA. Currently she is represented by The Clutts Agency in Dallas and Colors Talent Agency in Memphis, TN. She is a member of the Association of Theatre in Higher Education, Black Theatre Network and is a founding member of one of Los Angeles’ most successful running theatre companies, Sacred Fools. Most recently she was the Managing Producer of Theatre Oxford, in Oxford, MS, were she produced and acted in several productions. During her time in the north Mississippi area, Detra was fortunate to become a company member of Hattiloo Theatre in Memphis, TN where she taught adult acting classes and acted in a number of productions that earned her Ostrander award nominations. Detra has taught and continues to teach theatre to youth in Los Angeles, New York, Mississippi, and Dallas. Along with teaching theatre and acting, Detra has worked in film and television behind the scenes in a variety of capacities, from PA (production assistant), talent coordinator, production coordinator, director, producer and personal assistant. Detra has begun writing plays and film scripts and looks forward to having her work produced.
