Laurel Whitsett is a supporter of creativity in many forms. Her professional acting career began 30 years ago in Los Angeles after earning a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of California San Diego. In 2005 she earned an MA in Drama Text and Performance Studies from the University of London King’s College and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), and is currently working on a second MA in Linguistics here at UTA. Laurel was a professional cheerleader for the NFL’s then-San Diego Chargers and worked for Dallas’ own National Cheerleaders Association. She toured nationally with HIT Entertainment’s Bob the Builder Live! and has worked with local theatre companies such as the Dallas Theater Center, Stage West, Amphibian Stage Productions, Undermain, and Theater 3. Laurel also enjoys film and commercial work, having appeared in numerous national TV commercials including those for American Airlines, AT&T, and Dodge. Are you a horror film fan? If so, you can see Laurel as Sheriff Terry Frankel in Splinter; indie film fans can catch her as the sarcastic librarian in Super opposite Rainn Wilson, while mainstream moviegoers can see her in Premonition with Sandra Bullock. Having worked as Chuck Norris’ dialogue coach for the final season of Walker, Texas Ranger, Laurel has experience in a variety of below-the-line responsibilities including editing and directing. She is a state certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter and has combined her interests to produce work with the Dallas Theater Center as the ASL coach on their productions of Clybourne Park and with TheaterWorks Hartford as the British Sign Language coach for its production of Constellations. She is a member of SAG/AFTRA.
